Mazara del Vallo, Italy
The fifth edition of the "Marenostrum" Festival has begun, the International Festival of Mediterranean photography, organized by the I Vicoli del Mediterraneo association, which takes place every year in Mazara del Vallo. The main theme always remains the Mediterranean sea to which Mazara del Vallo is the gateway. The fifth edition brings international photographers to Mazara who will exhibit their works at the Jesuit College in Piazza Plebiscito until December 1st. “Our sea is the cradle of civilization, a sea that has fed men and women for centuries, a sea to cross with one's dreams, a sea that separates and unites, a sea that kills and gives life - says the artistic director Roberto Rubino - We have it wanted to tell by showing photographs of our wonderful landscapes, our markets, our cities but also by documenting with our reportage the journeys of hope, the wars, the drama of migrants". Among the authors, the Spaniard Olmo Calvo, well known for his denunciatory works. There will also be the works of the Norwegian Afshin Ismaeli with his latest work on the Syrian battle against the Kurdish people and Francesco Bellina, nominated for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass
